Welcome to the web site of Farmdene Health Centre. We are a six doctor practice based at at the new purpose built Farmdene Primary Care Centre at The Street, Farmdene. Our Doctors, Nurses and other health care professionals provide a number of NHS and private clinics and services to over 12,000 local residents. Unlike most GP Practices we have a range of other specialist clinicians and clinics working together in our purpose-built building- we have health visitors, physiotherapists, midwives, audiologists, podiatrists, dermatologists, and various other clinics. This benefits our patients and improves communication between the various clinicians.
We are currently accepting new patients - so if you are searching for a Doctor's Surgery to register with and live within our practice boundary then you are free to register with the practice. You can pop in to the surgery to get the registration documents or download the registration forms from this site.
We trust that this website will help you make the best use of all the services that we offer.
All change at Farmdene Health Centre
Many of you will know that Dr Sarah Evans retired as a GP partner in March and Dr Janet Ward has also just retired after nearly 30 years with the Health Centre. Fortunately neither doctor is planning to hang up their stethoscopes completely and they will both continue to work as locums in the practice and also continue their teaching of medical students. Dr David Lee has also recently left for personal reasons and unfortunately Dr David Ward is now on long term sick leave. Dr David Seamark also retired last year and to date we have been unable to replace any of these positions with GP partners. The remaining GPs are all managing larger lists. However we are very pleased to announce that Dr Dianne Eddison, whom some of who may remember as a previous partner, is returning to Honiton Surgery in November. We are also filling some gaps with locum doctors.
Waiting times for GP appointments
Whilst it is common knowledge that there is a national shortage of trained General Practitioners, due to early retirements and doctors no longer wishing to enter General Practice, up until now we have been relatively unaffected here at Farmdene Health Centre. However, we are now at a point where, despite our advertising extensively, we have been unable to recruit new partners to replace outgoing partners. We have tried to fill as many gaps as possible with locum GPs, but again these are in great demand from other local practices.
The knock on effect from this is that our patients will have to wait longer to see a GP, particularly one of their own choice. The doctors ask that you ask yourself if you really do need to see a doctor, or is there another way of managing your problem? Urgent problems will continue to be given priority.
